The Actisense NGX-1 connects compatible marine equipment and computer applications to NMEA 2000. Choose USB for a direct PC connection or ISO for a wired NMEA 0183 instrument interface. USB is the default selection; the ISO option is a separate gateway, not an extra adapter in the box.
Two selectable functions - Use Transfer mode with compatible NMEA 2000 computer software, or Convert mode to translate supported NMEA 0183 sentences and NMEA 2000 PGNs. These are alternative operating modes, not simultaneous functions. Check the application and the official conversion list before ordering.
Choose the right connection - NGX-1-USB has an integrated 1.8 m USB Type A cable for a computer. NGX-1-ISO has an isolated bare-wire interface for instrument wiring; a USB-only computer needs a suitable additional serial-to-USB interface to use ISO.
Practical setup and diagnosis - Configure the supported data and rates with Actisense tools and use the receive LEDs to help trace communication. Download current configuration tools and firmware from Actisense.
Versions
| USB — NGX-1-USB | Direct USB computer connection. Use Transfer mode for compatible NMEA 2000 software or Convert mode for NMEA 0183 applications. No direct bare-wire instrument connection. |
| ISO — NGX-1-ISO | Isolated bare-wire serial connection for compatible NMEA 0183 instruments. Requires an additional suitable interface for a USB-only computer. |
Dimensions
All dimensions in mm. Drawing: Actisense.
- Case length 87.5 mm; overall drawing envelope 126 mm, excluding the cable.
- Maximum width 72.5 mm; depth 24 mm. Allow space for the M12 connector, cable bends and mounting access.
Fitting
Disconnect power before wiring. Mount on a suitable flat surface, support the cables and connect the male M12 port to a correctly powered and terminated NMEA 2000 network. Connect USB to the computer and install the appropriate driver, or wire ISO according to both manuals. Select the operating mode, matching serial rate and required data before testing. Network drop/extension parts are selected separately.
Maintenance
Periodically inspect connectors, cable condition and mounting. If data are missing, check network power, receive LEDs, selected mode, baud rate and the conversion list before replacing hardware. Keep the official firmware and software current.
FAQ
Which version replaces an NGT-1-USB PC connection? - NGX-1-USB is the direct USB choice. Select Transfer mode and confirm that the computer software supports the NGX-1. The ISO version is not a direct plug-in USB replacement.
Does the USB version connect directly to bare-wire instruments? - No. Its serial connection is USB for a computer. Choose NGX-1-ISO for a compatible bare-wire NMEA 0183 instrument connection.
Can it convert and transfer at the same time? - No. Choose Convert or Transfer mode. Conversion is limited to the supported sentences and PGNs in the official Actisense list.
Does it need a powered NMEA 2000 network? - Yes. Both versions use the NMEA 2000 supply. A USB connection does not replace a correctly powered and terminated backbone. Wi-Fi is not enabled on the NGX-1.
