Mast
Going up the mast is easier and safer with firm footholds all the way. Mast steps are moulded from a nylon and glass-fibre composite, weigh 165 g each and fold flat when not in use.
Points to plan for a set of steps include:
- Folding mast steps in white, black or grey to match the spar
- A spacing of 375 mm on opposite sides, with two fitted opposite each other about 1200 mm from the top
- Roughly 2.5 steps per metre of mast, with none needed at the spreaders
- Five fixings per step in 4.8 mm holes, with Monel rivets as an accessory
Unlike stainless steel, the composite causes no electrolysis on an aluminium mast. A harness and safety line are strongly recommended whenever you climb.
