SSB
Every metre of coax between a VHF radio and its masthead antenna costs some signal. SSB-Electronic, a German radio-frequency specialist in Lippstadt, makes low-loss Aircell and Ecoflex cables to keep those losses down.
Cable and fittings stocked from SSB include:
- Aircell 5 low-loss VHF cable, a flexible 5 mm, 50 ohm coax with double copper shielding
- Ecoflex 10 ultra low-loss cable, about 10 mm thick, with a stranded copper conductor
- PL 259 connectors for Aircell 5, RG58 or Ecoflex 10, soldered rather than crimped
- UHF to BNC adapters and an angled BNC connector for AIS receivers and transponders
A common pairing is Ecoflex 10 for the long run to the mast base and the lighter Aircell 5 up the mast itself.
