Selma
Splicing is easier with the right needle for the line in hand. Selma makes its fids in Norway from highly polished stainless steel, a patented design intended to handle the splicing jobs found on a boat.
This 4-fid set includes needles with interior diameters of:
- 4 mm
- 5.5 mm
- 7.5 mm
- 10 mm
The fids suit hollow braid, double braid and three-strand splices, and they are kept together in a rigid plastic storage tube. Selma's own demonstrations show an eye splice on hollow braided line, how to join two hollow braided lines and three ways of splicing three-strand rope. As Selma points out, a hollow braid splice should be at least ten times the diameter of the rope.
