Where the masthead is already busy, a rail can be a practical spot for an AIS antenna. Metz pairs a stainless AIS whip with a hinged rail mount that fits without tools.

Parts for a rail installation include:

  • Metz AIS whip antenna, tuned to 162.0 MHz for AIS receivers and transponders
  • A stainless whip, replaceable if damaged, on a stainless body with an SO239 socket
  • 3 dB gain and an SWR below 1.2:1, with no ground plane needed
  • Manta rail mount for 25 mm rail, hinged with a hand nut and supplied with stainless bolts

The mount comes pre-drilled for the galvanised angle bracket supplied with the antenna. The whip is 87 cm long and the antenna weighs only 230 g.
