McMurdo
McMurdo has been making marine safety equipment since 1937, when it started out building radios. It also produced the first compact personal locator beacon.
Beacons, radios and services on sale include:
- FastFind 220 PLB, the world's first Galileo-enabled personal locator beacon, which also uses GPS and sends its alert on 406 MHz
- R5 handheld GMDSS VHF, with large buttons that can be pressed while wearing gloves
- Replacement lithium batteries for McMurdo handheld radios
- A four-year service for Smartfind E5 and G5 EPIRBs, with collection in mainland Spain and the Balearics
- PLB registration updates
The R5 meets IMO, GMDSS and ETSI requirements for SOLAS vessels and survival craft, yet McMurdo also designed it for everyday use.
