Echomax
Not every vessel carries AIS, so a clear radar echo still matters. Echomax makes passive radar reflectors and active target enhancers that make a boat easier to detect on another vessel's radar.
Echomax options available include:
- Active-X radar target enhancer, which amplifies an incoming X band radar signal and returns it stronger
- Active-XS, which adds the S band radars typically found on larger commercial vessels
- EM230 Midi passive reflector with a maximum 20 m² radar cross section, for boats of 8-15 m
- Stainless steel mast brackets for the EM230, sold in pairs
Both active units run on 12 V, and their alarm tells the crew when a radar signal is being received. The EM230 exceeds the RORC/ORC/WCC/ISAF requirement of 10 m².
