- A new Lithium Iron Disulphide battery guarantees full service life (service recommended after 5 years) and allows multiple self tests. The new easy service design reduces battery replacement costs.

MEOSAR Technology - McMurdo is the only EPIRB manufacturer that builds and supports the Cospas-Sarsat satellite ecosystems infrastructure. In the next few years Cospas Sarsat will be rolling out a new search and rescue infrastructure known as MEOSAR providing better accuracy, reliability and faster location. When fully deployed MEOSAR with offer a number of improvements:
- Determine beacon location within 5km, 95% of the time, within 10 minutes
- 72 MEOSAR satellites positioned at Medium Earth Orbit altitude
- Near instantaneous beacon signal detection using bent pipe technology – average 46 minutes faster compared to LEOSAR
- Reduced response times with multiple signal bursts to improve speed and accuracy of location calculation
- Close to 100% reliability due to multiple antenna systems and MEOLUT networking
- When fully operational next generation beacons will also have a return link signal through Galileo satellites allowing acknowledgement of signal receipt and beacon control to remotely activate, turn off or confirm false alarms

CAT 1 EPIRB automatic housing / automatic & manual activation
The EPIRB is enclosed A fully protective, spring loaded enclosure containing a Hydrostatic Release Unit which activates when submerged submerged between 1 - 4m releasing the water activated EPIRB. The SmartFind E8/G8 auto-housing incorporates fixing points which ensure previous* McMurdo auto-housing units can be retrofitted with minimum impact, when upgrading your vessels EPIRB.
CAT 2 EPIRB manual housing / automatic & manual activation
Supplied with a bulkhead installation mount and Travel Safe bracket. The EIPRB can be removed from the bulkhead mount for transportation and the Travel Safe bracket prevents accidental activation. Once manually removed from the Travel Safe bracket the EPIRB activates automatically via water contact. Alternatively the EPIRB can be activated manually at any time by lifting the red activation tab.
