Wind Generators & Accesories
Sailing has changed in the last few years and although purists like to keep things simple, most boats are loaded with new electronic gear and comforts that consume lots of electricity.
Wind power offers an economical solution to your energy needs and can produce substantial amounts of power day and night. We recommended the Air-X and Air Breeze from Sothwest Windpower as well as the new design Silentwind marine generator from Spreco. All units offer high power in a very lightweight package which simplifies installation.
Although not very efficient when sailing downwind, once anchored and especially when sailing into wind we can expect as much as 25 amps on 12 volt systems with a 400w unit.
The 4th generation Air Breeze despite its 200w rating can produce more power in areas with lighter winds than the 400w units due to its very low start up speed. The Air-X is still a favorite among sailors with a 400w rating particularly suitable for areas with higher winds. The new Silentwind by Spreco has been designed from scratch for very low noise and a balanced power output for low wind startup and a full 400 maximum power output.
